Summer is all about kicking back. I love music and creating playlists for myself and sharing them with friends. This is one that I made for summer featuring hits from all ages.

June Journal #2

If you can have one talent that you do not naturally have, what would it be?

Probably singing, acting or dancing. I just think it would be neat to explore that. It’s another way to be creative. I am in awe of those who can sing, act and dance so not going to lie it would be nice to be on the receiving end of that sort of admiration. Songs brighten everyone’s day; so to be able to do that would be great. Acting allows you to try on different hats; and give voice to others and their stories. Dancing keeps you fit; you can experience a different type of connection or intimacy with your partner, not to mention the costumes are stunningly beautiful. Dancing would be a very therapeutic activity I think.

What about you?

Father’s Day Gift Guide 2023

“Father’s Day is a holiday honoring one’s father, or relevant father figure, as well as fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society…[it] was founded in the state of Washington, United States by Sonora Smart Dodd in 1910,” (Wikipedia). This year in Canada it falls on June 18th. I recognize that many holidays are under fire because they emphasize the commercials, the material and the impersonal. However, for those of us who cannot be with our ‘fathers’ there is nothing wrong with wanting to send them something special.

June Journal #1

Think of a celebrity you would like to have dinner with. Write a note that just might catch that person’s attention enough for him or her to agree to the dinner.

This is tough because most of the celebrities I’d like to meet are dead. Long dead! I had to think on this for quite a while. But I’d have to say Padma Lakshmi from Top Chef.

Dear Ms. Lakshmi,

I understand you are an incredibly busy woman; being a mom, an advocate for social change, and running a successful business/brand and in general busy being an all-around bad-ass. I would love to sit down with you to discuss an exciting opportunity. I have made reservations at the most popular restaurant in New York city, see you there at 7:30!

(I am not quite sure why I’m resorting to trickery but maybe it could work.)

What about you?

June Goals: The Oddball List

June is always a bit of a hairy month for teachers; the time we have left to get our long lists accomplished is dwindling and we have only just begun. It kind of makes sense that this month’s goals are going to be a mixed bag.

  1. Get used to the quiet
-I am notorious for having “background noise” (mainly the Food Network or a show I have seen a zillion times on Netflix or Prime or Disney+). I find it tough to go from a noisy classroom to a “pin-drop quiet” house. I’d like to be able to “switch off” the noise.
  2. Don’t fall behind on weeding
-I really got behind last spring/summer because it was either pouring down rain and the gardens turned to mud or it was so hot that it was unbearable to be outside for any length of time. This year I changed my layout and there is actually space for the rototiller to get through.
  3. Workout Regularly
-I fell off the wagon because my Mom had a massive heart attack and my whole routine went out the window. I have noticed the change in myself since I stopped working out regularly and I’m really frustrated. I also think that this month especially I need the outlet of working out to make it through.

What about you? What goals are you setting for yourself?

May Journal #5

You have 2 hours to do something relaxing and a budget of $100. What will you do?

Normally I wouldn’t need $100! Typically to relax either have a hot bath and put on my most comfy clothes. Or, I wrap myself up in a fuzzy blanket and put on a face mask. Often times at night I will slather some mint oil on my temples and read a book until I fall asleep. Sometimes to relax I will binge watch a show. I guess if you wanted to attach a dollar value to it that might be maybe $50. But if I was forced to pick something relaxing that was out of the norm for me I guess I would have to use that $100 and get whatever massage or spa treatment I could. Or be reunited with my bestie! The money would go towards gas or it would go towards an incredible meal at a new restaurant with her. My best friend and I love to have chill, relaxing weekends together. I’m really seeing how cheap/affordable self care is and ultimately what that looks like for me as a result of this journal entry.

What about you?

May 2023 Goals: Accountability Post

I can’t believe how fast May flew by! Just a hop, skip and a jump until the school year is done and summer is officially here! I have been setting three goals each month since the New Year; I focused on physical health and then mental health and then I “made the most of” March. In April, I “Finish[ed] What I Started…” And this month was all about “The Little Things That Make All The Difference.” To keep myself accountable I’m checking in monthly with you all. As a refresher, my goals were…

1. Curb my binge-watching
2. Improving my posture
3. Get new bras

In terms of curbing my binge-watching, I made a list of shows I wanted to watch. Reboot (Disney+) and Wellmania (Netflix). As tempting as it was to binge both series, I watched one episode of ONE show a night. The weather helped me out with this one; it turned really nice so I was able to do more gardening. I think the binge watching may become an issue again in the winter.

In terms of improving my posture, I am going to have to work on this continually. As much as I try to be MINDFUL, I do forget or I get carried away with whatever I am doing BUT I have caught myself saying (internally), “sit up straight!” So I guess that it’s a good sign it’s on my radar at least. I am trying to sit as little as possible at work and at home, however, when I am sitting I avoid crossing my legs, I keep my elbows in and I have given up my favourite spot on the couch for a chair that is much better for my back.

In terms of getting new bras, I bought myself 5 new Remix Lightly Lined Demi bras from La Senza. I have tried other ones, but I keep coming back to these ones. I have to say it feels so nice to have properly fitting bras again!
