“Father’s Day is a holiday honoring one’s father, or relevant father figure, as well as fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society…[it] was founded in the state of Washington, United States by Sonora Smart Dodd in 1910,” (Wikipedia). This year in Canada it falls on June 18th. I recognize that many holidays are under fire because they emphasize the commercials, the material and the impersonal. However, for those of us who cannot be with our ‘fathers’ there is nothing wrong with wanting to send them something special.
