Which is stronger: love or hate?

They have equal strength in my opinion, however, I believe that love always wins. Love can accomplish the most incredible things. Hate can cause and equal amount of destruction. People throughout history have been celebrated for their love — all the help and goodness they put out into the world. People have been vilified (rightly so) for their hate — all the pain they have inflicted on the world. It begs the question of whether these two can exist without the other. So far it appears not. These concepts equate to “good and evil;” two halves of the same coin. One is what we should feel, give, and be. The other is what we should not feel, give and be. So I guess, since I believe love and goodness always wins, I guess by default it is stronger…

What are some of the hard facts about life?

  1. It isn’t fair!
  2. You have to learn that you are enough -if not, life will hurt. BIG TIME!
  3. Never feel bad about saying NO! You will hear “no” a lot in life and it’s okay.
  4. The jury is still out on whether or not there is magic.
  5. You are not given more than you can handle -never believe that you can’t do something. It is a test and the answer is always: Dig deep, keep going and prove them all wrong!
  6. If you are not open, you will miss out on A LOT!
  7. Love comes in many shapes and sizes; life is not a fairy tale so your happy ending is not “cookie cutter,” so STOP looking for it.
  8. The pursuit of money will sour you!

What is the best pick up line you know?

I have never used a pick up line on a guy before. Believe it or not but I have never really been “hit on” or “picked up” like they depict it in movies; you know the scene –a guy walks up to a girl in a bar with a canned line. “Hey, how’s it going?” is pretty much what I have heard. And since I have been married for seven years (together for 11) obviously that line worked! When I was doing the online dating thing they did have some canned conversation starters that you could send to your matches. Those were pretty tame; nothing cheesy. When I hear the phrase: “pick up line.” I think of tidbits like this…

Guy: Did it hurt?
Girl: Did what hurt?
Guy: When you fell from heaven

What is the worst emotion a human being can feel?

Wow this is really a tough one! What comes to mind are shame, worthlessness, loneliness. But if I had to pick one perhaps HATRED would be the worst emotion a human being can feel.  When a person feels hatred they can become blinded by it and do unspeakable and evil things. Hatred destroys people both aggressor and victim. Our world would be a much better place if people didn’t hate. Hatred can be the result of other terrible emotions like I previously mentioned. Hatred can also be the result of misinformation and the lack of critical thinking skills. Hatred is such a dangerous emotion. It is an all consuming emotion. Our species needs help.

Describe a way a friend supported you when you needed it.

One friend in particular – who I met at work – supports me all the time. She is a remarkable human being. She lets me vent. She keeps my secrets when I ask her to. She gives fantastic advice. She makes me food. She is the most thoughtful person. She gives you little gifts when you feel down which perks you right up. She also gives thoughtful gifts to celebrate successes. She is there for me; for all her friends. She suggests little outings to get a break from whatever is bothering you which helps you re-center and have some laughs. She is the ultimate cheerleader!

What is your favourite CD or album?

CDs? What are those? Am I right? I don’t have a favourite CD or album, although back in my “youth” I had  A LOT of CDs. My mom and I ordered from a company -maybe Columbia House – I am not sure the name but basically you’d get a bunch of CDs every month for a flat rate. I even had a 6 disc CD player both at home and in my first car. I like all sorts of music so my “faves” change all the time. This month it is Miley Cyrus’ latest album, next month who knows. For the longest time, probably ages 11-16 I was obsessed with the Backstreet Boys; so my favourite albums were always theirs. With Spotify I am embracing a lot of different artists. Basically if I find something I like I listen to it over and over again, like I did with the soundtrack for SIX in the summer. I often listen to songs or albums way longer than they are popular.

Describe your ultimate sandwich.

My husband makes the best ones! They are on fresh cheese buns with lots of deli meat, cheese, onion slices, pickles and just the right amount of mayo and mustard. I LOVE sandwiches. If I could eat subway everyday, I would. I also love veggie wraps -do those count? I am going to count them. It is kind of funny because as a kid when I would open my lunch kit I would roll my eyes when I saw a sandwich. I was always hoping for something more exciting but now I am the opposite. I think it is the bread more than anything else. There is nothing better  than a delicious bun – or slides of sourdough or marble rye. Mmmm French bread, yum! The bread really makes a sandwich.

What is a personality trait you admire in other people?

Discipline or motivation is definitely a personality trait that I admire in other people. They get stuff done, achieve great success and seem to be able to have it all. They seem to have it all in their personal and professional lives. To be honest I would love to have a lot more discipline and motivation in the fitness and nutrition area of my life; it’s always been a struggle for me. Some disciplined or motivated people in that regard that I have recently started to follow are Kayla Itsines, Rachel Dillon, Amanda Kloots and her sister Anna. These ladies are hustling in all the best ways possible and they love to support other women which sadly isn’t always the case even today which is shocking. Obviously it’s a lot of work to become and stay motivated or disciplined. It’s not something easy or magical which is one thing I really like about the previously mentioned ladies is they do acknowledge the work that it takes and they do validate when people are struggling. They also share their struggles they don’t make it seem like it’s all rosy which is very relatable.

Would you rather spend the day at an art museum, science museum, or history museum?

I absolutely love museums. In fact, I’m always the person dragging people to them. I even build entire holidays and vacations around them. I beg my husband to take me so I can, “nerd out.” I have even been to some incredible museums around the world. Museums in England, Scotland, Wales, Alaska, California, Washington, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Italy and France. If I had to rank them number one would be an art gallery, number two a history museum and in third place a science museum. But ultimately it’s really a three-way tie for first place. I was recently in Houston, Texas but I was unable to go to any, hopefully next time, because I already have ones picked out that I want to go to.

Describe your favourite comic strip or cartoon!

My favourite cartoon of all time is the 1966 version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I watch it every year at Christmas, multiple times without fail. I have watched it for as long as I can remember. There is just something about Boris Karloff’s voice. I was a hardcore Dr. Seuss fan growing up. The Who’s that occupy Whoville are adorable. I can hear “You’re a Mean one, Mr Grinch” in my head as I write this. There is just something about an underdog or a societal reject getting his happy ending all thanks to Little Cindy Lou Who. His heart grows, he is accepted, he rights his wrongs and he gets to celebrate Christmas with his family and Max the dog. I prefer this version to all the other versions of the Grinch that are out there.
